We're big fans of Chicago-based writer Anne Elizabeth Moore and loved her book Cambodian Grrrl, so we had to stock this follow-up about her experiences teaching self-publishing to a group of young women who represented the second generation of Khmer Rouge survivors.

Moore's students decide to rewrite the Chbap Srei, a 17th-century book intended to establish a (repressive) code of conduct for young Cambodian women. Their yearlong effort culminates in a discussion about human rights and gender equity, and a handbound book for all participants. Tragically, the completed book was banned and censored in both Cambodia and the U.S.—and what these bold young women learn next about when they are allowed to speak, and to whom, is chilling.
