Turning grief into action

I haven't posted much about Open Sesame lately, in part because the past few weeks have been so devastating. As I've grieved the 215 children discovered at the Kamloops Indian Residential School and the murder of three generations of London, ON's Afzaal-Salman family, I have also been disgusted by the white supremacy thriving in Waterloo Region. Here are some actions WR residents can take to support Indigenous people on the Haldimand Tract, and fight racism in our community:

-join ReAllocateWR in calling on Waterloo Region Police Services to "rescind all tickets and fines from anti-racism protests" (such as the Anti-Racism Rally in Wilmot on May 8, and KW Palestine's Nakba 73 Car Rally on May 15)

-donate to WR's Land Back Camp

-donate to the Woodland Cultural Centre at the Mohawk Institute (a former residential school in Brantford)

-participate in First Peoples Group's Prime Ministers Path Engagement Community Voices Forum (you do not need to be a Wilmot resident)

-read the summary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report

-support InsideWaterloo, an independent media initiative "amplifying the voices of Black, Indigenous and racialized residents living in Waterloo Region"
