Friday, November 30, 2018 at 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM: GUSH community reading in Kitchener

A community reading from GUSH: Menstrual Manifestos For Our Times, edited by Rosanna Deerchild, Ariel Gordon, and Tanis MacDonald.

Our 112 contributors to GUSH come from all over Canada, and the United States, England, and India. We didn’t start out to make an international anthology, but when we started to get pieces from women who wrote from places other than Canada, we sought to include as many of them in as many forms as we could: poems, cartoons, rants, flash fiction, personal essays, mini-epics, lyric confessions, experimental forms. We wanted – and received – work from menstruators from all kinds of backgrounds and heritages and traditions: LGBTQ+ voices, Indigenous voices, writers of colour, writers with disabilities, young writers and older writers, beginning and well-established writers. We found writers who were bemused, angry, proud, disappointed, tough, giddy, doubtful, grieving, fierce, nostalgic, and frustrated: writers who called down their bloodiest muses.

And now it's your turn! This community reading will include anthology contributors AND guest readers who will perform their favourite pieces from the book! And a few new menstrual pieces of writing may debut here as well. All welcome.
