Friday July 13, 2PM: The Conversation: The Condor and Eagle Prophecy

The Eagle and the Condor prophecy of the Amazon speaks of human societies splitting into two paths, north and south - that of the Eagle, and that of the Condor. The prophecy says that after 1000 years, the potential would arise for the Eagle and the Condor (the north and the south) to come together, to fly in the same sky, and to create a new level of consciousness for humanity.

Inspired by the legend of the Eagle and the Condor we will invite Mapuche artist, singer and story teller Beatriz Pichi Malen to share the stage with local Mohawk artist, singer and story teller Cara Loft, in order to present a symposium and a performance evening on July 13, have them each perform on the main stage of Kultrun World Music Festival as well as present a collaborative performance on July 14 and conduct a workshop dedicated to children: through storytelling and song to speak of unity of the love of community and the environment.

This project brings together two very respected Indigenous artists. Beatriz Pichi Malen has been active in the dissemination of Mapuche culture and history, collaborating with educational institutions, and facilitating workshops and seminars all over Argentina. Cara Loft is the Coordinator for the Master of Social Work, Aboriginal Field of Study Program at WLU. She uses her art as a tool to foster relationships between the Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples of Canada. The conversation and collaboration between these two outstanding artists will impact their audiences in profound ways. We believe that this is a very significant conversation to be had in our region as we re-discover our relationships to local Indigenous communities and try to unpack and understand the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission results
